Being a kid can be challenging!
Like, seriously! Put yourself in their shoes momentarily and remember when you were a kid. You had no say in where you lived, who your parents were, and what choices the adults in your life would make.
You couldn’t drive or make your own money (not easily) and couldn’t pick your school, choose if your neighborhood was safe, or decide what faith your family followed.
And don’t even get us started about other uncontrollable things, like divorce, tragedy, or health conditions.
But we suspect you know this already.
Otherwise, you wouldn’t be reading this.
As a parent, you can see your kid is suffering.
She’s not acting her typical self or acting like the person you know she can be.
Unfortunately, at this point, you’re struggling to know what to do about it.
Here’s the good news – we can help.
We have been working with kids for over 20 years and have developed a strong reputation for building a quick connection with young people using a host of modalities… and just being easy to talk to.
For children, art, play activities, and interactive games help provide a safe place where your child can express their feelings. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) can help relieve anxiety as your child or adolescent starts to understand their thinking.
More importantly, feeling safe with someone easy to talk to provides an excellent space for your child to share their emotions and learn ways to deal with the many challenges.
Emphasis on performance can create stress.
Kids in gifted/talented programs who are super ambitious can feel crushed by the pressure of performance and experience high stress and anxiety.
Under these conditions, some young people lose their zest for life and struggle to say why. Some may have experienced a traumatic event, creating more stress and anxiety (see the TF-CBT page).
Other kids may struggle to make friends due to social anxiety or depression or find adjusting to recent life changes hard.
Our focus is helping your child balance performance and minimizing the stress and anxiety that can come with over-achieving.

**IMPORTANT note: We keep limited appointments available for children and reserve the spots for those children we feel we are most effective for. We are currently not accepting high-risk clients (i.e., suicidal/homicidal ideations, cutting, risky online behavior, running away from home, at-risk for removal from their home, pervasive substance use, oppositional defiance, explosive mood disorders, conduct disorder, etc.). We also screen out cases that involve custody battles and re-unification needs.
